Local public transport

All towns and communities in the Saarlouis District are connected to the local public transport system via regular services. Shuttle buses to the neighbouring districts in the Saarland, as well as to the town of Creutzwald in France, are additionally operated. The Kreis-Verkehrsbetriebe Saarlouis AG (Saarlouis District public transport authority) covers a catchment area with a population of around 158000 inhabitants in the Saarlouis rural district. In addition, a service is provided to Düppenweiler in the Merzig-Wadern District. Three services are operated to the nearby town of Völklingen. A cross-border service is still provided to the French border town of Creutzwald in Lorraine, which dates back to the days when road and local rail connections were set up to serve the colliery there.

During the day, the buses operate on the main routes in a 30-minute rhythm. transfer connection to the Deutsche Bahn are thus guaranteed.
