Tradition and progress shape the economic area in the Saarlouis District. An eventful industrial history has produced a richly varied economic infrastructure. Despite global crises over the past three decades, the major industrial companies in the region have undergone a promising development. With the AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke as well as Ford-Werke AG Saarlouis, the district can boast some of the most prestigious companies in the Saarland economy.
Together with coal and steel, now a new mecca in the automotive sector
The new locations in recent years in particular in the automotive sector, such as the companies VAW Alucast in Dillingen and Johnson Controls in Schwalbach, have in spite of the ongoing restructuring of the economy helped to reinforce the importance of industry thanks to their technological lead.
Another milestone in the further economic development of the Saarlouis District is the supplier park in the immediate vicinity of the Ford plant on the Röderberg in Saarlouis. If the newly created jobs here are added to the employees in the sub-contractor and service firms to the trade, the companies in the field of electrical and precision engineering, the plastics sector and mechanical engineering, as well as car-dependent services jobs (transport, trade, maintenance, technical support, fuel economy, financial and insurance services), every 5th job in the Saarlouis District is in the meantime directly or indirectly dependent on the automobile industry.
Services on the advance
However, as well as future-oriented branches in industrial processing and trade, modern services companies are increasingly determining the economic life of our region. The proportion of employees in services has, for example, risen from 36 % of the total number of employed persons in 1980 to over 49.5 % today, with the consequence that new jobs in our region are increasingly being created in the tertiary sector with its modern services companies.
Skilled employees for skilled work
In our economic area, we are lucky that - across the border in the neighbouring French and partly German-speaking region of Lorraine - skilled workers are easier to find than in many overstrained agglomeration areas. We can draw on a rich potential of skilled workers with industrial experience, for whom a 3-shift day is a way of life. A low level of female employment opens many opportunities. Young scientists and academics are guaranteed by the university and colleges in the Saarland.
Optimum development opportunities - business sites à la carte
More than 144 ha of currently vacant and developed industrial and commercial building sites offer excellent development prospects for the future. Added to these are 70 production halls or warehouses of various dimensions available for immediate occupation, as well as numerous large-scale office, retail and administrative properties. Thus the district has a wide selection of business premises for you to choose from. With the "Häsfeld" industrial and trading estate in the community of Überherrn, at around 64 ha the largest stretch of industrial land in the Saarland, as well as the Saarwellingen industrial estate and other trading zones to be found in almost all communities in the district, the region offers the best possible opportunities for the future location of new or the expansion of existing companies.
New companies in the Saarlouis district ...
... are always welcome. Large and small businesses, including a number of companies operating supra-regionally and even internationally, have already chosen our economic area as the base for their operations.
You certainly won't regret following in their footsteps!
